African textiles give an insight into the tradition and culture of the continent’s myriad ethnic groups.
Fibres traditionally used for weaving are predominantly cotton but also include wool, silk, raffia, bark, and bast fibers like flax and jute, which produce linen cloth. Our range includes the classic Wax print styles from Ghana, Mali mudcloth, and fine batik and indigo fabric-style cloth from Burkina Faso. We hand-select all our African fabrics from the markets and support a collective of weavers in Burkina Faso who hand-sew their traditional African textiles piece by piece. We also stock a range of batik print wall hangings that are hand-dyed and feature many wonderful village scenes.
