Woven from elephant grass harvested in the flood plains of the White Volta near Bolgatanga, each Bolga hat is made entirely by hand by the Frafra people of Northern Ghana.
The grass is dried and dyed using plant dyes before weaving begins, which is what gives the colours their depth and consistency across the crown and brim. The hat is finished with a braided upcycled leather chin strap and tassel.
Bashiri has sourced directly from weaving families in Bolgatanga since 1997.
