Nelson Mandela, Mike Tyson, Boeing 707, House Party: the signs absorbed whatever was moving through Ghanaian popular culture at the time, particularly from the United States. Some were painted by the barbers themselves.

Hand-painted barbershop signs have been featured in major museum exhibitions including the Fowler Museum at UCLA, the Museum of African Art in New York, and the SFO Museum in San Francisco.
Bashiri carries a rotating selection of original hand-painted barbershop signs from Ghana.
