    Round Bolga Basket – Natural – All sizes

    Handwoven in Ghana’s Bolgatanga region, these round baskets come in sizes small through XL. Choose from a leather or vegan handle.

FAQs

Extra-large round Bolga baskets measure 42.5cm and above across the top, the largest size in the round range.
At this width, they take folded blankets and throws, larger toys, firewood stacked by a fireplace, and sit on the floor as open storage in larger rooms.
For a slightly smaller woven basket, the large round baskets are one size below, 36 to 42cm across the top in the same round shape.

Extra-large round Bolga baskets come in a range of colours, with the colour dyed into the grass before weaving so it carries through the fibre.
With the colour of your choice option you pick a colour scheme, such as violets, woodland tones, or bright colours, and we’ll choose a matching basket, woven by Frafra weavers in Bolgatanga from hand-dyed elephant grass.
You can also select an individually listed basket, where the exact one photographed is the one you’ll get, or a natural undyed basket in the plain elephant grass.

Each extra-large round Bolga basket is coiled by hand by a single weaver, from the base out to the rim, using elephant grass grown around Bolgatanga in northern Ghana. Bashiri has worked with the same Frafra weavers in Bolgatanga since 1997, visiting each year and selecting every basket in person. Because one weaver builds each basket by hand, no two come out identical in size or pattern.

The Mega Wawa basket is the roomiest Bolga basket Bashiri carries, an oblong shape measuring 45 to 58cm long. Its double weave, two layers of elephant grass instead of one, gives it a sturdier feel, and the open oblong form carries comfortably on the arm for everyday use.
For open storage rather than carrying, hamper baskets are large, bowl-shaped baskets sized 44 to 50cm across, handwoven in Bolgatanga from the same elephant grass as the round range.
