FAQs

Sale selections come out of the same in-person process behind the rest of the range: pieces are chosen on trips to Bolgatanga, and the last pieces from a style, a colour that we’re phasing out, a batch that came through larger than usual, or baskets graded as Second Grade Baskets get marked down.

Not all of it. Sale items outside baskets, like African textiles, musical instruments, and masks and statues, are marked down within their own sections rather than gathered here.
Some Second Grade Baskets are also individually listed under their own style’s range rather than sold in bulk on this page.

The sale range spans the size spread of the Bolga collection, from small and mini styles up to large round baskets around 36 to 42cm across, plus market baskets, Moses baskets, and laundry baskets in their own dimensions.
Exact measurements are listed on each basket’s own page.

Second Grade Baskets are handwoven in Bolgatanga using the same elephant grass and coiling technique as the standard range, just set aside during Bashiri’s selection process for a cosmetic issue such as colour fading, a scuff, a mark on the handle, or occasionally a section of the weave that’s come a little loose.
These baskets are still functional, just not up to the standard needed for the full-price range, and are sold in bulk lots at a lower price.
Some baskets are also listed individually under their own style’s range rather than as part of a bulk pack.
