A Beautiful Tradition

The weaving process

Generations of women in the Bolgatanga region of Northern Ghana gather underneath a lush mango tree, singing, dancing, and laughing as they weave. The baskets they weave are woven with the sustainable elephant grass that is harvested, dried, and boiled to then dye with radiant colours.

The weavers split each length of grass into two, rolling it to strengthen the material. Each weaver has their own special technique, their own special touch.

The joy and inclusion of community surrounding the weaving process is a beautiful tradition that ignites unity, prompting the children and the community to join in the celebration.

Discover our range of round woven baskets as seen in the picture here!
