This eclectic scale occurs in Indian, Middle Eastern, Eastern European, Central Asian, and Flamenco music. The flattened 2nd note and raised 3rd give it its distinctive character. One of our favourites!

 

F Akebono: (F), A#, C, C#, F, F#, A#, C, C# – Rubber mallets and padded canvas carry bag included.
Also known as Hiajoshi, this “even tuning” scale from Japan has no fixed tonic, so it fits into many keys and styles of play.

 

C Lydian: (G), C, D, E, F#, G, A, B, C – Rubber mallets and padded canvas carry bag included.
Similar to the major scale, the Lydian mode’s point of difference is the raised 4th note, F#. Often used in jazz, and found in older traditional music, it is as rich as it is light and airy. It’s easy to pick up and has plenty of room for discovery.

 

C Diatonic: (G), C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C – Rubber mallets and padded canvas carry bag included.
The C Diatonic (major) scale is found on the white notes of a piano, beginning at C. As such, this tuning is an excellent starting point for teachers and educators or new students of music. This is an easy scale on which to explore musical concepts, and it is easily accompanied by other instruments in many keys.

 

C Pentatonic Major – Dark Green (G, C, D, E, G, A, C, D, E): Rubber mallets and padded canvas carry bag included.
The pentatonic major scale is arguably one of the most intuitive musical scales around. It’s super easy to pick up and play, making it excellent for teaching, improvisation, exploration or just sitting in a sunny spot with not a care in the world!

 

A Pentatonic Minor:  (A, C, D, E, A, C, D) – Rubber mallets and padded canvas carry bag included.
A strong and versatile scale, A Minor is closely related to C Major, so can be played with instruments tuned to either key. The pentatonic scale is easy to pick up and lends itself to improvisation.

 

C Pygmy: (G), C, D, D#, G, A#, C, D, D# – Rubber mallets and padded canvas carry bag included.
Also known as the Dorian mode, the Pygmy scale is related to the pentatonic minor, but has the 6th note included (the low A, in this case). This creates an open, mystical atmosphere reminiscent of a crystal palace. Try playing this one with your fingers and dive into a magical world!”
