about our woven lampshades
Elephant grass for this lampshade is harvested from the White Volta flood plains, then dried, split into lengths and rolled by hand before it’s dyed, so the natural colour runs through the fibre.
A Frafra weaver in Bolgatanga, Ghana, coils the shade in one continuous length from start to finish.
Because a single weaver shapes each piece, no two lampshades come out the same.
FAQs
How do I wire or fit a Bolga lampshade?
Wiring isn’t included, since each lampshade ships as the woven piece only. The top is left open with a hole ready for you to add your own light fitting or pendant kit.
What can I pair with a Bolga lampshade?
A Bolga lampshade pairs naturally with other elephant grass pieces.
Bashiri’s Bolga Platters & Tableware range uses the same weaving technique and looks at home on a sideboard or dining table beneath the light.
Can I use a Bolga lampshade outdoors?
A Bolga lampshade isn’t suited to sustained outdoor use. Elephant grass (veta vera) needs to stay dry, and colour can fade with sustained direct sunlight, so it’s best kept indoors or under full cover.
