Basket weaving has been central to community life in Bolgatanga for generations, with techniques and patterns passed between weaving families rather than through formal instruction. The elephant grass used for weaving grows in the flood plains of the White Volta near Bolgatanga, harvested and prepared locally
before weaving begins. Bashiri has worked directly with weavers in the Bolgatanga region since 1997, visiting annually and selecting every basket in person. That relationship means we know our makers by name, and have built long-standing connections with the weaving community.

Bolga baskets are handwoven in Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana, using locally grown elephant grass.
Artisans craft each basket by hand using traditional weaving techniques passed down through generations.
Valued for their strength and flexibility, they’re commonly used for décor, storage, shopping, laundry, and carrying.
Each basket reflects the skill and choices of the individual weaver, and we work directly with weaving communities in Ghana, supporting long-standing relationships and ongoing livelihoods.
Some Bolga baskets are offered with a colour of your choice option, where you select preferred colour tones and a basket is chosen to match.
In addition, all styles are also individually listed, with each basket photographed and named, so you receive the exact piece shown.
Both options are handwoven in Ghana and finished by individual makers.
Our woven baskets are made for everyday life, with styles including market baskets for carrying, round baskets for décor or general storage, African laundry baskets, baby Moses baskets, and oval baskets with an elongated shape.
Each style is crafted around its purpose, from sturdy, open forms for shopping to deeper, more contained designs for the home.
Finishes range from natural weaves to patterned and coloured designs, with leather or vegan handle options.
