African Bolga Baskets

 These handwoven baskets come in a range of shapes, sizes, and colours, and move easily between the market, the kitchen, and the home.
Basket weaving has been central to community life in Bolgatanga for generations, with techniques and patterns passed between weaving families rather than through formal instruction. The elephant grass used for weaving grows in the flood plains of the White Volta near Bolgatanga, harvested and prepared locally
before weaving begins. Bashiri has worked directly with weavers in the Bolgatanga region since 1997, visiting annually and selecting every basket in person. That relationship means we know our makers by name, and have built long-standing connections with the weaving community.
