This mask represents a stylised bird common in the southern region of Burkina Faso, revered as a guardian spirit. Typical of the Bobo style, this mask is carved with stunning geometric patterns and contrasting pigments. This type of mask is traditionally danced during initiation ceremonies to ensure a peaceful passage into to adulthood, and at funeral ceremonies.
