Description

Ndoma masks honour and entertain, and are danced at many social occasions. They are typically carved to represent a beloved ancestor or member of the community. They represent the Baule people’s idealised vision of beauty, depicted in carefully carved features, elaborate hairstyles, and symbolic scarification.

Ndoma masks often appear at elaborate ceremonial dance called Mblo, which is performed on stilts.
